Police officers from the Zadar Station of the Maritime and Airport Police intervened against boaters who breached navigation rules in the Zadar area over the past two days. During the operation, several instances of vessels planing on the sea were recorded, leading to sanctions against ten individuals.
The infractions were recorded at several locations, including the waters off Pašman, Ugljan, Sukošan, and Petrcan. The police established that the individuals were steering vessels in a manner not in accordance with the regulations, specifically at a distance of less than 300 metres from the shore. Such behaviour poses a serious risk to the safety of swimmers and other participants in water traffic.
Sanctions were imposed in accordance with the provisions of the Maritime Code. Among those sanctioned are eight foreign nationals and two Croatian nationals. Infraction notices were issued, with fines of 400.00 euros per infraction. The police aim to highlight strict adherence to traffic rules in the sea around Zadar.
Boaters are strictly prohibited from planing within 300 metres of the shore. This measure aims to ensure the safety of those in the water, given that vessels planing close to the shore create large waves and pose a danger.
Swimmers, on the other hand, are permitted to swim only up to the fence of a designated beach or 100 metres from the shore on natural beaches. Additionally, divers must mark their dive site in the prescribed manner to avoid incidents with vessels. The police appeal to all participants in water traffic to respect the aforementioned rules for the sake of collective safety.
