In the 'Hrast' recreational zone in Čakovec, a fishing competition was held on Saturday, 29 August, bringing together four competing teams. The event, organised by the 'Hrast' association, marked its third consecutive year, gathering fishing enthusiasts for a shared competitive event. Representatives from the local community participated, including the team from the Čakovec Fire Brigade, as well as the 'Žirek' association team, alongside the local 'Hrast' team, which fielded three competitors.

The competition lasted two hours, during which participants had to demonstrate skill and patience. The trophy was won by the 'Hrast' team, which managed to catch more fish, specifically carp, with a weight exceeding eight kilograms. This success for the local competitors highlighted the quality of the prepared area, which had previously been a neglected area, later used as a temporary waste disposal site.

The area was restored to its current appearance thanks to the joint effort of the 'Hrast' association members and the support of the local authority. The city provided key support by providing machinery, enabling the excavation of the necessary ponds for fishing. Despite this, a remaining administrative hurdle, namely obtaining the necessary permits for the electrical connection, remained to be resolved. This event, supported by the local community, contributed to strengthening the local community and created a positive atmosphere for future sports activities in this part of the city.
