The artistic collective MSCHF has transformed two production Lexus electric vehicles into surreal sculptures, exhibited in New York during Armory Week. The exhibition is titled 'MOTORMORPHOSIS'.
The exhibition features two production electric vehicles from the manufacturer, which have been completely reworked into surreal sculptural forms. These are vehicles that left the production line as standard electric models, before undergoing a thorough artistic transformation.
The Lexus RZ 450e model appears in its original form as an electric vehicle, but also as a sculpture titled 'Circle Car'. This sculpture is shaped into a closed loop in which the vehicle moves in a circle, questioning the common perception of a car as a vehicle moving in a straight line.
The Lexus RX 450h+ is presented alongside its standard version and through the work 'Twisted Car'. This work is executed in a dramatic longitudinal torsion, with surface lines and features stretched along a spiral body, giving the vehicle a completely new visual dynamic.
Artists from the MSCHF collective define these exhibits as 'form-cars' rather than conventional concept cars. The authors explain that the sculptures highlight the fluidity of human perception and the inseparable connection between the object and its capacity for dynamic movement.
