Second-year students on the master's programme in Sustainable Tourism Development at the Department of Economics, University of Zadar, completed their fieldwork on the island of Ugljan. They familiarised themselves with the island's tourism offer and local identity.

The first stop was the islet of Galevac, known locally as Školjić. It is home to the Monastery of St Paul the Hermit, where the students were welcomed by Franciscan friars. During the tour, they were introduced to the history of the islet, the founding of the church and monastery, and its spiritual role. The friars also presented the spiritual exercises held at the monastery.

The programme continued with a joint breakfast and a discussion with the directors of the island tourism boards. During a visit to the newly built Preko Ugljan Island, Curio Collection by Hilton, students explored the contemporary hotel offer and various aspects of hotel operations.

The fieldwork then proceeded to Hotel Kali. There, they were welcomed by Lovrenka Grzunov, director and owner of the family-run hotel. She explained how the hotel uses storytelling to bring the specialities of local life, tradition and the identity of the place of Kali closer to guests.

A special part of the programme was the screening of the short film “A Day in Kali”. The film offers an intimate portrait of the fishing village of Kali on the island of Ugljan.
