The renovated Topusko Sanatorium and Top Termi complex was officially opened, marking the completion of an extensive modernisation of hotel, pool and wellness facilities. The project, titled “Topusko at the Source of Health – Sanatorium and Wellness Tourism in a Sustainable Manner”, was carried out by project partners Top Termi and Sisak-Moslavina County (Sisačko-moslavačka županija).

The total value of the investment is €48.3 million, according to an announcement by Sisak-Moslavina County published ahead of the opening. Of this amount, €17.2 million in non-repayable funds was secured from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, via the Ministry of Tourism and Sport. The remainder of the investment was financed by the own funds of Topusko Sanatorium and funds from the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (Hrvatska banka za obnovu i razvitak). The director of Topusko Sanatorium and Top Termi is Domagoj Mosler.

The renovation involved the refurbishment of 15,000 square metres of indoor space, with an additional 1,500 square metres of newly built space added. The complex now features 175 rooms and 300 beds, along with new wellness facilities that were previously unavailable. Guests also have access to 2,500 square metres of outdoor space and 3,500 square metres of total space, as well as 600 conference seats and 300 seating places. The complex includes 10 indoor and outdoor pools and eight saunas.

Sisak-Moslavina County President Ivan Celjak highlighted that this is the largest investment in tourism in the county. He stated that they had previously possessed one of the highest quality medicinal waters in Europe and that they were today witnessing the fulfilment of a dream they had held in Sisak-Moslavina County for decades.

Minister of Tourism and Sport Tonči Glavina emphasised that projects such as the renovation of Topusko Sanatorium and Top Termi are changing Croatian tourism, raising the quality and competitiveness of the tourist offer, and creating preconditions for stronger year-round development of continental tourism. He added that this is the largest investment in Croatian tourism in Sisak-Moslavina County.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković congratulated the organisers on the completion of a major and important project for Topusko and the entire Sisak-Moslavina County. He said they were witnessing a major reconstruction of the sanatorium, hotel, thermal spas and new wellness facilities, which form an offer and quality with 175 rooms and just under 300 beds. The Prime Minister attended the ceremonial opening on Wednesday, 28 October.

The renovated spaces of Topusko Sanatorium and Top Termi were blessed by the Bishop of Sisak, Monsignor Vlado Košić. During the opening programme, some citizens expressed dissatisfaction by unfurling banners due to the announced construction of a development and data centre for artificial intelligence in Topusko.

With the completion of the extensive modernisation, Topusko has gained new opportunities for the development of health, recreational and conference tourism.
