Two reforestation actions under the Boranka campaign are being held this weekend at the fire site in Plan near Trogir, with around 370 volunteers taking part. This is a continuation of the activities that organisers call the largest European volunteer reforestation effort.

Among the participants are students and teachers from the Braća Radić Secondary School in Kaštelo, along with other volunteers. The South Korean ambassador to Croatia, Seungbuhm Lee, will join the Saturday action, with one of the campaign's sponsors being the Scout Association of the Republic of Korea.

Native tree species will be planted on the fire site, according to the recommendations of Hrvatske šume, including both white and black pine. The most planted species will be Turkish pine, black ash, cypress, and maritime pine.

The main organisers of the campaign are the Scout Union of Croatia, Hrvatske šume, the Croatian Mountain Rescue, and the Directorate for Civil Protection. The actions in the Trog area are being carried out with the help of local scouts, the City of Trog, firefighters, and the Red Cross, with reforestation continuing on Saturday, 10 October.

Boranka has so far brought together more than 13,600 volunteers from Croatia and abroad. More than 140,000 saplings have been planted on fire sites in the areas of Split, Solin, Makarska, Trog, Zadar, and Šibenik.

The campaign is named after the burnt pines from which special pastel crayons called 'boralice' were made. In recent years, Boranka has expanded beyond Croatia: for the fourth time, it is being held in North Macedonia, for the third time in Montenegro, for the second time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for the first time in Albania.
