On the island of Murter, 11 young volunteers from seven European countries have arrived this week, who will participate in the ISLAND EXTRAVAGANZA 2026 project over the course of a month. The project is being carried out by the Argonaut association within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps.
The volunteers are from Germany, Italy, France, Lithuania, Denmark, Poland and Spain, and are staying in Murter from 15 September to 13 October 2026. Their stay includes a series of activities focused on preserving local cultural and historical heritage.
At the heart of the project is the revitalisation and enhancement of the material and non-material cultural heritage of Murter. The project involves the active engagement of the local community and international volunteers, who will, through field work, get to know Murter, its customs, history and the local community itself.
One of the key aspects of the project will be the cleaning and maintenance of various sites in the Murter area. These activities will be carried out in agreement with the Municipality of Murte-Kornati and the municipal utility company Murte, and will be adapted to the locations and tasks that can contribute to the preservation and better valuation of the heritage.
In addition to field work, the project offers young people the opportunity for intercultural learning, exchange of experience and exposure to local heritage. Volunteers are thus able to compare the approaches to preserving cultural heritage in their own countries, which further enriches their participation in the project.
