The Međimurje County Association of the Blind is implementing the project 'Better Life for Blind People in Međimurje County II', with the support and co-financing of Međimurje County. The project is time-limited to the calendar year, running from 1 January to 31 December 2026. The main objective of the initiative is to encourage blind people to actively engage in social activities and to make use of available social services.
Experts state that the regular use of social services directly contributes to the social inclusion of blind people in the local community. Moreover, this approach has the effect of improving the overall quality of life for this target group. The project activities encompass a wide range of measures, including psychological support, the organisation of user clubs, the introduction of innovative social services, and the implementation of educational activities.
In the past period, the first concrete activities within the project have been carried out. Particular emphasis has been placed on group workshops, which were conducted in collaboration with the Office for Family, Social Care and Allocation of State Aid, Međimurje Branch. In addition to psychological support, the project includes cultural and educational content through the organisation of literary clubs, held in partnership with the 'Nikola Zrinski' Library in Čakovec.
A significant part of the activity is focused on access to information and literature. The process of enrolling users in the Croatian Association of the Blind and the HSS Info service is ongoing. Users are also provided with access to borrow and listen to audiobooks, which facilitates their ability to follow current events and literary works. Furthermore, a course on independent mobility has been conducted, which involves familiarising users with new routes, thereby promoting greater independence for blind people in their daily movement.
