Members of the Down Syndrome Association visited the Međimurje Police Directorate on Tuesday, 27 October, where they met police officers and learned about their daily work and equipment during the visit. They were particularly delighted by the police motorcycles and their encounter with the official police dog Loka.

The visit began outside the Police Directorate building, where they were greeted by police officer Karmen Tomašić of the Traffic Police Station. She introduced them to the various roles of police officers and their daily duties. The association members then toured the administrative affairs department, where they learned how personal documents used by citizens daily are produced.

The guests played basketball in the Police Directorate sports hall and learned how police officers maintain their physical fitness. The police vehicles and equipment attracted great interest. Officers showed them part of the official vehicle fleet, including the Mobile Preventive Centre of the Police, motorcycles and other vehicles. They had the opportunity to sit on a police motorcycle, switch on the rotating lights and hear the sound of the police siren.

One of the more interesting parts of the visit was the encounter with the official police dog Loka and her handler. Association members learned more about Loka’s work and the role of official dogs in the police.

At the end of the gathering, they were presented with commemorative gifts from the Office of the Chief. The gifts will remind them of the visit and what they learned about the police, including the importance of road safety. Members of the Down Syndrome Association left the Međimurje Police Directorate with new experiences and pleasant memories of the gathering.
