Županja has been ranked among the top 10 Croatian cities that allocate significant funds for families and children. This follows research and analysis by the portal Gradonačelnik.hr, based on data from FINA (Financial Agency) and the Ministry of Finance.
In terms of support allocation as a share of total expenditure, Županja ranked second in the small cities category in 2025, with a share of 2.66 per cent, amounting to €295,010. When viewed per capita, Županja ranks fifth, with €33.95 per capita.
The city provides one-off assistance for newborn children. The aid is €800 for the first child in a family, €1,000 for the second, and €5,000 for the third and each subsequent newborn. The mayor has discretion to approve higher assistance amounts as defined by established criteria.
Every child in Županja is guaranteed a place in a kindergarten if a parent expresses the need. The city allocates €1.2 million annually for kindergarten operations. The central Maslačka facility currently has 15 educational groups with a total of 326 children, while the Šećerana facility has two groups with 44 children. With the start of the new academic year, two dayrooms for nursery groups were built and equipped.
All primary school pupils received free workbooks, technical kits and art folders from the city in the current school year. Secondary school students received a one-off grant of €150 each. Županja is one of the few cities in Croatia that provides scholarships to all its students. Scholarship amounts were increased in the current academic year, ranging from €90 for first-year students to €110, €130 and €155 monthly for higher-year students, depending on the number of credits achieved.
The city co-funds transport costs for pupils and students, as well as accommodation for pupils in student dormitories. It also co-funds transport costs for children with developmental difficulties attending rehabilitation. The right to fund accommodation in a preschool or rehabilitation facility is realised when such care is deemed most appropriate. The city covers the costs of regular inspection and cleaning of chimney systems on behalf of owners, provides free parking and regularly pays Christmas and Easter bonuses to pensioners.
