The Natural History Museum Rijeka is participating in the celebration of Children's Week with a series of free events for children, families, and kindergarten and school groups in Rijeka and Brod na Kupi. The programme runs from 6 to 10 October, organised across both museum locations.
The programme begins on Tuesday, 6 October, with free entry and self-guided tours of the museum exhibitions. At the Zrinski Castle in Brod na Kupi, visitors can view the permanent exhibition 'Wilderness with a View of the Sea' and the Interpretative Centre 'Via Frankopan'. In the Rijeka museum, visitors can explore the natural heritage of the region – from the seabed and karst caves to geological history, plant and animal life. Prior registration is not required for the free self-guided tour of the museum.
The central part of the programme will take place on 8 October. On that day, a workshop titled 'Fossils: What They Are and How They Form' will be held in Rijeka and Brod na Kupi, aimed at kindergarten groups and students from the first to the fourth grade. Participants will, through play and practical work, learn about the formation of fossils and create their own models, or their own fossils.
The programme concludes on Saturday, 10 October, with a family workshop 'Forest Quest' for children aged four to six and their parents. Participants will search for traces, footprints, and listen to the sounds of forest animals. The aim of the workshop is to develop a spirit of inquiry, cooperation, and careful observation of nature through play.
The author of the programme is senior conservator and pedagogist Anita Hrdak. All programs within the scope of Children's Week are free for participants, but due to limited places for the workshops, prior registration is required via email at edukacija@prirodoslovni.com or by phone at 051/553-669.
