In the little port of Labuš, there is a buzz ahead of the start of the 95th Mrduja Regatta, the oldest and most massive competition of its kind on our side of the Adriatic. Preparations for the sailing spectacle are in full swing, with organisers finalising the last details before the fleet sets out to sea.
202 boats will line up, heading towards the islet in the Split Gate, located between Brač and Šolta, at exactly 11:00. The start line is situated below the Štivan peak, and the start of the regatta will traditionally be marked by the mayor of Split.
The route to Mrdu is 11 nautical miles long. After the turn at the islet, the sailboats face a return to the finish line beneath the lab, where the winners of this year's edition will be decided.
The Mrdu Regatta, this year in its 95th edition, confirms its status as the longest-standing and most attended sailing event in this part of the Adriatic. The large number of registered vessels indicates that interest in the regatta has not waned after almost a century of tradition.
It is expected that the port of Split and the aqua area towards the Split Gate will be filled with boats and spectators following the start and passage of the fleet. The outcome of the regatta will depend on the weather conditions on the route between Brač and Š.
