Members of the Fazan Hunting Society from Hodošan gathered at the branch church in Hodošan for Mass on the feast day of St Hubert, the patron saint of hunters. The celebration was held on Tuesday, 3 November, and the liturgy was led by parish priest Fr Dr Silvio Košćak.
In the introduction to the Mass, the priest outlined the life and significance of St Hubert. He reminded the congregation that St Hubert was a bishop who operated in the area of present-day Belgium at the turn of the 7th and 8th centuries. According to well-known tradition, during a hunt he saw a stag with a cross between its antlers, and this unusual encounter became a symbol of his conversion and change in life path.
The priest emphasised that the story of St Hubert carries a message that transcends hunting tradition. He highlighted that time spent in nature provides an opportunity to admire the beauty of God’s creation. The gathered hunters jointly thanked God for the gift of the created world, and during the communal prayer, the intercession of St Hubert was invoked.
In their prayers, the hunters expressed a desire for blessing, safety and responsibility in their activities. The celebration was an opportunity to connect faith, hunting tradition, friendship and community. The importance of preserving nature as a gift to be kept for future generations was particularly highlighted.
The Parish of St George in Trnje sent congratulations to all Međimurje hunters on the occasion of the feast day of their heavenly patron.
