The Ban Dvor Association from Oroslavje has officially launched its publishing activities by establishing its own scientific and professional journal. The decision to establish the journal was made with the aim of creating a professional space dedicated to research in the fields of social and humanities sciences. The editor-in-chief of the new publication is Dr Ivan Mance, who takes responsibility for editorial policy and the quality of published content.
The name of the journal, Ban Dvor, is directly linked to the specific site of Mlakvena greda in the area of Kosinj. A medieval Ban Dvor is located in this area, and the name of the site itself is closely connected to early Croatian political and administrative tradition. The choice of name symbolises the journal’s aspiration to be a space for free and argumentative scientific dialogue, based on verifiable sources, evidence, and the application of scientific or professional methods.
The journal is electronic and free for readers, enabling broad access to scientific knowledge. Authors are not charged for submitting papers, editorial processing, peer review, or publication itself. Authors retain their copyright, while published papers are available under the CC BY 4.0 licence. In addition to scientific papers, the journal publishes transcripts, translations, review articles, essays, and news from the field.
The first volume, published on 21 August, features five professional contributions. The content includes papers on Glagolitic script, Croatian cultural and historical heritage, and an analysis of the relationship with the past and the history of Croatian books. In the introductory section of the first volume, in the form of an editorial, the reasons for launching the journal are explained in detail. In this introduction, the importance of freedom of research, critical thinking, and open scientific debate is highlighted as the fundamental values of the publication.
The online edition allows for reading and downloading full papers, facilitating finding, citing, and integrating research into academic systems. Readers can view the content on the official website, where a summary of the entire volume and the introductory section are available. This step represents a significant contribution to the Croatian scientific and cultural scene, opening up new opportunities for knowledge exchange in the field of humanities sciences.
