Talented sixth and seventh-form pupils at Osnovna škola Đurđevac (Đurđevac Primary School) took part in the G.A.T.E. HUHR project, in which they investigated whether holograms could be used as a modern way of presenting local landmarks and specialities.

The main challenge was to design a way to present Đurđevac, its rich history, the legend of the Picoke and its cultural heritage to guests from other countries in a contemporary and engaging manner. During the workshop, the pupils were divided into two groups — one was building a holographic projector, while the other constructed a holographic pyramid that enables the viewing of a holographic display.

Through research, collaboration and practical work, the pupils learned about the creation of the holographic effect and the application of light and optical illusions in everyday life. After completing their projects, they tested them together.

The pupils were particularly delighted by the moment when they observed a holographic display of a rooster through the prisms they had built, which appeared to be floating in space. The results of their work showed that with a little creativity, knowledge and teamwork, very interesting visual effects can be created.

The workshop provided the pupils with an opportunity to develop research skills, creative thinking and collaboration. It was led by teachers Davorka Hrženjak and Maja Šalamon Nemet, who encouraged the pupils to investigate, ask questions and discover the new possibilities offered by science and technology.
