Tinjan municipality is marking the feast day of St Simon, the municipality's patron saint, with a solemn ceremony. The central event will be the blessing of the restored bell tower, scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October 2026, following a Holy Mass beginning at 11am.
The restoration of the Tinjan bell tower has been completed following construction and conservation works. The tower is one of the town's most recognisable symbols and an important part of its cultural and historical heritage. The restoration project was carried out by Tinjan municipality, with the aim of preserving valuable architectural heritage, protecting the tower from further deterioration and maintaining its original appearance for future generations.
The works were carried out in two phases. In the first phase, construction works were executed by Mar d.o.o. from Samobor, while the second phase involved specialist conservation treatment of the tower's stone elements. Tinjan mayor Goran Hrvatin highlighted the importance of completing the project ahead of the patron saint's feast day.
Residents and visitors can also look forward to a traditional quiz gathering at the House of Istrian Ham. The quiz is organised by the Enrico Depiera Local Collection Association, which has been holding the traditional pub quiz on the occasion of St Simon's Day for five years. The idea for the quiz originated in 2021, and this year's fifth consecutive quiz will be held at the House of Istrian Ham in Tinjan.
Quiz participants will face questions on the history, culture, natural landmarks, customs and curiosities of the Tinjan area and Istria as a whole. The quiz author and host is Ivan Hrastovčak from Sveti Lovreč.
Tinjan municipality invites all residents, believers and visitors to attend and honour this special moment for the local community. It calls on all residents, friends of the municipality and visitors to join the Holy Mass at 11am and the solemn blessing of the restored bell tower on Wednesday, 28 October, and to take part in the traditional St Simon's Istrian quiz at the House of Istrian Ham as part of this year's St Simon's Day celebrations.
