An exhibition and a lecture by Damir Sabol, a Čakovec entrepreneur and electrical engineer, were held at the “Nikola Zrinski” Library on Monday, 19 October 2026. The event took place as part of Croatian Book Month, and the exhibition was opened by the General Department of the “Nikola Zrinski” Library in Čakovec.
Titled “Photomath”, the exhibition displays the chronology of the creation of the eponymous app, which was acquired by Google. Damir Sabol is credited as the author of the exhibition, while Sandra Mikac and Borivoj Radojčić were responsible for the visual and content design of the display and its realisation.
The lecture was held in the library’s Multimedia Hall, where Sabol spoke about his professional development. He recalled founding Iskon Internet in 1997, one of the first private internet service providers in Croatia. After Iskon, he launched the company Microblink, from which Photomath evolved.
The Photomath app uses a smartphone camera to recognise and solve mathematical problems. Sabol highlighted that the app has been downloaded more than 300 million times, and was acquired by Google in 2023.
Damir Sabol currently works at Google as a director of software engineering, where he leads Google’s engineering team in Croatia. The exhibition and lecture thus brought visitors closer to the journey from a local entrepreneurial idea to a global technology company.
