The energy renovation of the building of the Police Directorate of Dubrovnik-Neretva (Policijska uprava dubrovačko-neretvanske) has been completed, with the project's aim being the implementation of a deep renovation of this public-use building. The results are significant: the renovation delivered a saving of 83.31 per cent in energy required for heating, a 66.71 per cent saving in primary energy, and a 75.00 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the pre-renovation state.

In addition to energy indicators, the project improved microclimatic conditions and the comfort of staying in the building. In the surrounding area, existing green spaces were landscaped and greened, a photovoltaic power plant was built, and bicycle parking facilities were constructed to promote the green transition. The implementation of the project and the results achieved are in accordance with the DNSH principles, meaning they do not cause significant harm and do not conflict with environmental objectives.

The project thus contributes to the renovation of the building, the reduction of energy needs and consumption in a public-use building, the increased use of renewable energy sources, and the reduction of CO2 emissions. The target groups are the Ministry of the Interior, acting as the project applicant and building owner, and Ministry of the Interior employees, as well as administrative staff who will gain a more comfortable, higher-quality and healthier workspace through the energy renovation of the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Directorate building. The end-users are the wider local community, which receives an energy-renovated social-use facility in its area, along with a reduction in atmospheric CO2 emissions.

The project covered energy renovation activities, the preparation of project documentation, project management and administration, as well as promotion and visibility. The planned measures included increasing the thermal protection of the sloped roof, increasing the thermal protection of the ceiling towards the unheated attic, replacing external joinery, increasing the thermal protection of the floor above unheated space, and increasing the thermal protection of the external wall.

Interventions were carried out on the building's technical systems, which included the installation of a space cooling system using a water chiller, the installation of a sub-system for the piping of the central heating system, the installation of a fan coil system, the introduction of a building automation system, the replacement of internal lighting with more efficient fixtures, and the replacement of all existing taps and faucets with new, more efficient ones.

The total value of the project including VAT is €3,114,892.79, total eligible costs are €1,666,145.88, and total grant funds are €1,312,798.19. The project implementation period lasted from 22 February 2023 to 1 November 2026.
