A solemn wreath-laying ceremony and candle-lighting took place this morning at the Central Cross on the Municipal Cemetery in Umag. The ceremony was held to mark All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, paying tribute to late fellow citizens and all those who left a mark on the community through their lives, work and contributions.

A delegation from the City of Umag, led by Mayor Vilij Bassanese and City Council President Ivan Belušić, laid the wreaths. Representatives of associations originating from the Homeland War and the Anti-Fascist Association from the Bujština area were also present.

Mayor Bassanese delivered a message to the citizens. He highlighted the importance of remembering loved ones and expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the development of the city and its community through their lives and actions.

He stated that All Saints' Day reminds us of family, friendship, closeness, mutual respect and the small, seemingly ordinary moments that make life invaluable. He emphasised that we should not postpone kind words, hugs, forgiveness and gestures of attention towards those around us.

Bassanese noted that on this day, the community remembers all fellow citizens who have indebted the city through their work, sacrifice and deeds, leaving a part of themselves in its legacy. He said that all citizens and individuals share their values, memories and life stories.

Umag, he pointed out, is not just a city where people live and work, but a city of their families, encounters and memories, a city of generations who created, preserved and bequeathed it to those who follow. He concluded that we owe gratitude to all those who have woven a part of themselves into the city and its community through their lives, work and selfless contributions.
